Book the ComGI exam without paying twice: SCI's rules
How to book the ComGI exam with SCI: pay by card, pick one session, and know the date-change rules. A weekday sitting is S$109.00, after 5pm S$119.90.

To book the ComGI exam, register on the SCI website, select ComGI from the general insurance papers and pay by Visa or MasterCard. SCI won't let you cancel, withdraw or send a substitute once you've submitted. A weekday daytime sitting costs S$109.00 and an evening or weekend sitting costs S$119.90, GST included.
Two names for one paper
SCI calls the whole set the Certification in General Insurance, shortened to CGI, and the commercial paper inside it is ComGI. Some prep material and some managers say "CGI" when they mean the commercial paper. When you register, you need ComGI. A pass in BCP counts toward both the personal and commercial certifications, so a candidate who has already passed it for PGI doesn't sit it again.
What you pay and what's inside it
| Session | Fee |
|---|---|
| Weekday, 9am to 5pm band | S$109.00 |
| After 5pm | S$119.90 |
| Weekend, 9am to 5pm | S$119.90, where offered |
Each fee holds a non-refundable registration fee of S$10.90. SCI's member rate doesn't cover the general insurance papers, so members and non-members pay the same. A retake is charged at the same rate as a first attempt, and SCI sets no limit on attempts. It grants no exemptions here and points enquiries to MAS Notice 211.
What you can't undo
Once you pay, you're in. SCI refuses cancellations and withdrawals, returns no fees and lets nobody step into your slot, and it urges candidates to double-check before they submit. What stays flexible is the date.
SCI measures in working days, ignoring weekends, public holidays and the exam day itself. Request a change seven or more working days out and the first one costs nothing; every later request is S$32.70. Ask with fewer than seven but more than two working days left and it's S$32.70 regardless. With two or fewer, SCI won't reschedule.
A move from day to evening adds a top-up fee. A move from evening to day is allowed, but the difference isn't refunded. If your name, birth date or ID number is wrong, fix it in person at SCI with original documents before the exam, because SCI doesn't edit details at admission.
Booking step by step
- Sign in to SCI, or open an account if this is your first paper. There's no paper form; registration is online.
- On the Certification in General Insurance page, pick ComGI.
- Select a date and a start time from the schedule.
- Pay with a Visa or MasterCard credit card. SCI offers no other route to individuals registering online.
- Expect a Confirmation of Examination Registration by email, with the eBook link.
Both emails go to the address on your form, so look in spam if one is missing, and correct a mistyped address in your SCI account.
Choosing a session
The schedule SCI showed on 2 November 2026 ran to 31 December and had ComGI on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, none at the weekend. Each sitting is 1 hour 15 minutes. The starts were 10:45 am, in the daytime band, and 6:00 pm, in the evening band. The first date listed was 4 November, and SCI revises its schedule, so check it live.
Take the 10:45 am start if you can spare a morning. The 6:00 pm start ends at 7:15 pm and suits a normal office day, at S$10.90 more. ComGI is the longest list of topics in the general insurance set, with ten lines in SCI's contents, so don't pick a date until you've worked through the classes you've never handled.
SCI asks candidates to take BCP first, then PGI or ComGI depending on role. If you need only the commercial certification, that's BCP and ComGI. Our general insurance certification guide sets out which papers each role needs.
If you need more than one general insurance paper
Every paper is its own booking and its own payment, on the same SCI account. SCI's order is BCP first, then the paper for your role. Someone who needs both the personal and the commercial certification sits BCP, PGI and ComGI in turn.
Space the dates so each result informs the next booking. You see your score when you finish, so you can book the next paper once you know the last one went well, and you don't pay for a ComGI slot you might have to move because BCP didn't go to plan. If you book all three at once, leave a gap of at least a week between them. That way a change on one paper doesn't push you into the fee window on another.
A timeline that avoids change fees
Plan backwards from the exam in SCI's working days.
| Days out | Milestone |
|---|---|
| 15 | First timed mock, on the classes you've covered |
| 10 | Second mock, then the lowest-scoring classes again |
| 8 | Keep the date or move it |
| 7 | Last day for the free first change |
| 3 to 6 | Moving it costs S$32.70 |
| 2 or fewer | Fixed |
With ten lines to cover, the day-8 call matters most. Mocks well short of 35 out of 50 mean you should move the date while the move is free.
After you pay
The eBook link carries your study text, and it stops working once you've sat the exam. SCI recommends 40 to 50 hours of study at the least for each module, and says experience changes that. The ComGI study plan spreads it over three weeks. Compare your practice options in ComGI practice paper options, then try the ComGI practice page or start ComGI as a single paper.
On the day
You sit ComGI closed book, on a screen, at SCI's centre: 9 Temasek Boulevard, unit 14-01 of Suntec Tower Two. SCI supplies no calculators or stationery. What to carry is in our exam day guide. Your result appears when you finish and SCI hands over a result slip rather than a certificate. Passing earns 1.25 CPD hours.
