Book the BCP exam without paying twice: SCI's rules
How to book the BCP exam with SCI: pay by card, pick one session, and know the date-change rules. A weekday sitting is S$49.05, after 5pm S$54.50.

To book the BCP exam, register on the SCI website and pay by Visa or MasterCard. Once you submit, SCI doesn't allow a cancellation, a refund or a substitute candidate, so choose the date and session before you pay. BCP costs S$49.05 for a weekday daytime sitting and S$54.50 for an evening or weekend one, GST included.
What you can't undo
SCI's registration policy is blunt: cancellation or withdrawal isn't allowed, fees aren't refunded, and nobody can take your place. It asks you to check everything before you submit. Treat the payment page as the point of no return.
You can move your date, within limits. SCI counts working days, leaving out weekends and public holidays, and it doesn't count the exam day itself.
| When you ask | What happens |
|---|---|
| 7 or more working days before | Your first change is free. Later ones cost S$32.70 each |
| 3 to 6 working days before | S$32.70 per request |
| 2 working days or less before | No rescheduling |
S$32.70 is two thirds of the BCP fee, so pick a date you can keep. Switching from a daytime to an evening slot means a top-up fee, plus the change fee where it applies, paid by card. Going from evening to daytime is allowed, and SCI refunds nothing.
Your name, date of birth and ID number need to match your ID. SCI won't change them at admission. You'd have to visit SCI in person with the original documents before the exam, and a correction that arrives after the exam starts means you can't sit.
Booking step by step
- Open the SCI website and log in. If this is your first SCI exam, create an account. Registration has to be done online.
- Open the exam details for the Certification in General Insurance. SCI puts BCP, PGI and ComGI on one page, so check that the paper you select is BCP.
- Pick a session from SCI's exam schedule.
- Pay with a Visa or MasterCard credit card. SCI says it's the only way to pay when you register online as an individual.
- Look for your Confirmation of Examination Registration by email. The eBook link arrives with it or soon after.
The email address on your registration form is where the confirmation and the eBook link go. If you don't see them, look in spam and junk. If your address has changed, update it through your SCI account before exam day.
Which session to pick
SCI runs exams in English on weekdays. The schedule I read on 2 November 2026 ran to 31 December and had no weekend BCP sessions. BCP is a short sitting of 45 minutes. The listed starts were 4:00 pm or 4:15 pm in the afternoon and 7:45 pm in the evening, on weekdays from Monday to Friday. Dates and times change, so read SCI's live schedule when you book.
| Session | Fee | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Weekday, 9am to 5pm band | S$49.05 | The afternoon starts fall here |
| After 5pm | S$54.50 | The 7:45 pm starts |
| Weekend, 9am to 5pm | S$54.50 | The after-5pm fee, where SCI offers one |
The gap between the two fees is small, so don't rush into an evening slot after a full day at work to save it. Choose the hour you think best. If your afternoons are free, the 4:00 or 4:15 pm start is also the cheaper one.
BCP has no registration fee inside its price, unlike PGI and ComGI, where SCI's note lists S$10.90. Retakes cost the same as a first attempt, and there's no limit on how many times you can sit. SCI doesn't grant exemptions from these papers and sends enquiries about them to MAS Notice 211.
When to book
Look at your mock scores first. A two-week plan fits BCP, so a date two to three weeks out works for most people, with a spare week in hand. Your first change is free only until seven working days before the exam, which makes that your last cheap exit.
If you're also heading for PGI or ComGI, book BCP first. SCI says BCP should preferably come first, since the other papers build on it, and your result appears when you finish the paper. So you can plan the next booking around a pass.
After you pay
The eBook link is your study text. For BCP, SCI's notice puts the study text on the 8th Edition, Version 1.1, for exams from 3 August 2026, and the Version Control Record at the back of the eBook lists what changed. SCI recommends at least 40 to 50 hours of study for each of these modules, and says the right figure depends on your experience. Spread over two weeks, that's roughly three hours a day. If you have a day job, count the evenings between booking and the exam before you commit to a date, and move the date only if you do it more than seven working days out.
Slips that cost a second fee
Most double payments come from small things.
- Booking the wrong paper. BCP, PGI and ComGI share one page on SCI's site, and they sit side by side.
- A wrong email address. The confirmation and the eBook link go to the address on your form.
- A date picked on a hunch. Every change after the first free one costs S$32.70.
- A name that doesn't match your ID. SCI fixes this only in person, before the exam.
- Reading the eBook late. SCI switches the link off the moment you've sat the exam, so finish the reading first.
There's no member discount to chase either. SCI's member rate covers certain CMFAS papers, and BCP isn't one of them, so every candidate pays the same fee, whichever company they're with.
Before the day
The exam is closed book and on a computer screen at SCI, 9 Temasek Boulevard, unit 14-01 of Suntec Tower Two. SCI supplies no calculators or stationery. Our exam day guide covers ID and what to leave at home. For practice material worth using, see BCP practice paper options, and follow the BCP study plan for the weeks before your date.
When your timed mocks are steady, try the BCP practice page or start BCP as a single paper.
