CMFAS exam fee 2026: what SCI charges for every paper

A CMFAS exam fee at SCI runs from S$109.00 to S$236.53 a sitting, GST included. M8, M8A, M9 and M9A each cost S$109.00 at the member weekday rate and up to S$149.33 for a non-member after 5pm, and RES 5 costs S$185.30 to S$236.53. Retakes cost the same as a first attempt, and SkillsFuture Credit doesn't apply. The tables below list every rate SCI publishes, as read on 11 October 2026.

Member rates for the CMFAS papers

Two things set your fee: whether you register through an SCI or IBF member company, and whether you sit on a weekday before 5pm. These are the member rates.

PaperWeekday 9am to 5pmAfter 5pm or weekend
RES 5S$185.30S$203.83
M8, M8A, M9 or M9A, eachS$109.00S$127.53
CM-LIP or CM-CISS$239.80S$258.33
CM-LICS$457.80S$476.33

Non-member rates

If your company isn't a member, or you register with a personal email, you pay these instead.

PaperWeekday 9am to 5pmAfter 5pm or weekend
RES 5S$218.00S$236.53
M8, M8A, M9 or M9A, eachS$130.80S$149.33
CM-LIP or CM-CISS$283.40S$301.93
CM-LICS$545.00S$563.53

HI and the general insurance papers

HI, BCP, PGI and ComGI aren't CMFAS modules, but most insurance recruits sit at least one of them, and SCI charges everyone the same for these.

PaperWeekday 9am to 5pmAfter 5pm or weekend
HIS$109.00S$119.90
PGI or ComGI, eachS$109.00S$119.90
BCPS$49.05S$54.50

Who gets the member rate

The member rate applies only to RES 5, M8, M8A, M9, M9A and the three combined papers. You qualify if your company is an SCI or IBF member and you register one of two ways:

  • through your company's corporate account, or
  • on SCI's individual online form with your own corporate email address, your company's name and its UEN.

A personal email address won't get you the member rate. Check that your company really is a member before you pick it, because SCI makes the candidate or the company pay any shortfall before the sitting.

Ask your agency which route it uses before you book.

Weekday, evening or weekend

A weekday sitting before 5pm is the cheapest slot. After 5pm costs more, and weekend daytime sittings, when SCI offers them, are charged at the after-5pm rate.

SCI runs the CMFAS papers every weekday at its centre in Suntec Tower Two. If you can take a morning off work, M9 at the member rate drops from S$127.53 to S$109.00.

What the fee includes

Every figure above already includes GST and SCI's registration fee, so there's nothing to add at checkout. The registration fee is non-refundable: S$21.80 inside each CMFAS fee, and S$10.90 inside the HI, PGI and ComGI fees. BCP's fee has no registration fee in it.

Your fee also gets you the study text. SCI emails a link to the eBook once you've registered and paid. Access ends once you've sat the paper, and a retake turns it back on when you register again. SCI no longer issues printed study texts, though you can print the eBook yourself.

Retakes cost the full fee again

Since 1 April 2024, SCI charges first-timers and retakers the same fee for every attempt. There's no limit on how many times you can sit, but each attempt is a full fee.

Fail RES 5 once at the non-member weekday rate and you've paid S$218.00 twice, before counting the weeks your appointment slips. The cheapest way through is one sitting, booked once you're scoring clear of the pass mark on full mocks.

Combined papers cost more than two singles

The combined papers save you a trip, not money. At the member weekday rate, M9 and M9A cost S$109.00 each when you book them separately, while CM-LIP costs S$239.80. Two singles come out cheaper at every rate, and so do four singles against CM-LIC.

There's another catch. CM-LIP needs 70% in each part, so one weak part fails the sitting, and you pay the full CM-LIP fee to try again. If one of the pair worries you, book them separately. Our M9 or M9A first guide covers the order.

Changing your date: the S$32.70 admin fee

You can't cancel a registration, get a refund or hand your slot to someone else. You can move it, under SCI's rescheduling policy:

When you askWhat it costs
7 or more working days before the examFirst change free, then S$32.70 per request
3 to 6 working days beforeS$32.70 per request
2 working days or less beforeNo change allowed

Working days leave out weekends, public holidays and the exam day itself. Moving from a day slot to an evening slot also means paying the top-up to the evening rate, by credit card. Moving from evening to day is allowed, but SCI doesn't refund the difference.

SkillsFuture, UTAP and how to pay

SCI says SkillsFuture Credit can't be used for CMFAS exams. UTAP funding is open to eligible NTUC members, so check with NTUC before you pay if you're a member.

Individual online registrations are paid by Visa or MasterCard, the only option SCI accepts for them. Lose your result slip later and a Letter of Certification costs S$43.60 for your own record, because SCI never reissues result slips.

Pass it once

Your exam bill is the fee times the number of attempts. Cut the attempts and you cut the bill.

Book once your full mocks clear the pass mark with room to spare. Our RES 5 page shows what our practice covers, and you can start RES 5 as a single paper with full timed mocks and an explanation on every answer. For booking steps, read booking the RES 5 exam.
