BCP practice papers: how to choose before you pay

The BCP practice papers worth your time copy the real paper: 40 multiple-choice questions, 45 minutes, 28 right to pass. They explain every answer, and they follow the study text edition you'll be examined on. Check those three things before you spend a dollar, because a set that fails one of them trains you for a different exam.

What SCI gives you, and what it doesn't

When your registration and payment go through, SCI emails you a link to the BCP eBook. That's the study text. SCI's page for the general insurance papers names the eBook as the study material and doesn't list a question bank, so practice has to come from somewhere else.

Two SCI rules affect how you plan. SCI switches the eBook link off as soon as you've sat the exam, pass or fail. If you resit, you get access again once you've registered and paid for the retake. So don't leave your reading until after a first attempt. Read it while the link is live, and save the questions you want to keep working on elsewhere.

Four kinds of BCP practice material

KindGood forWatch for
Shared PDFs and question listsSeeing how questions are wordedNo date, no reasoning, a wrong key you can't spot
Fixed paid setsOne clean run under timed conditionsYou've seen every question by your second try
Interactive question banksRepeating a topic, retesting mistakesQuality depends on the explanations
Questions you write from the eBookLearning the principles properlySlow, and no clock

Most people end up with a mix. The eBook teaches you the material, and a question bank shows you whether it stuck. What you want to avoid is a pile of unlabelled PDFs, because you can't tell which ones describe the current paper.

Five checks before you pay

  1. Look at the format. BCP is 40 questions in 45 minutes, about 67 seconds each. A 50-question set, or a list with no timer, is practice for another paper.
  2. Ask which edition it was written for. SCI's notice puts BCP on the 8th Edition, Version 1.1, for exams from 3 August 2026. Open the Version Control Record at the back of your eBook and compare. Treat any bank as practice, ours included, and let the eBook settle a disagreement.
  3. Look for a reason under every answer. BCP is a paper of principles and definitions, and an answer key that only gives a letter hides which principle you misread. Finding that out is the point of practising.
  4. Count the questions. One mock uses 40, so three or four full mock exams need 120 to 160 before anything repeats. A set of 100 runs out early.
  5. See whether you can go back to your mistakes. They show you where the marks went, so a bank that retests only those saves hours.

Where CMFAS Prep fits

We have 250+ BCP questions, and they sit behind the BCP practice page. The parts that matter for a 45-minute paper:

  • Full timed mocks in Simulation Mode, at 40 questions in 45 minutes.
  • Chapter practice, so you can work through SCI's nine topics one at a time.
  • An explanation on every answer.
  • A retest of your wrong answers only, 30 at a time.
  • Chapter scores after each mock, with up to three chapters listed when you're below the pass mark.

A One Paper pass for BCP is S$29.90 for one month of access. BCP is the shortest of the three general insurance papers, so a month is plenty if you follow the BCP study plan. We don't offer video lessons, tutors or exam booking. You book with SCI.

If you finish two full Simulation Mode mocks, fail the real exam and claim within 30 days of the result, your access is extended by one month at no charge. All purchases are otherwise final, so look at the BCP format and pass mark first and make sure the paper is the one you need.

Practise by topic, then by paper

SCI lists nine topics for BCP. It doesn't publish how the 40 questions split between them, so you can't rely on a weak topic staying small. Our grouping is a way to plan practice, not SCI's.

GroupTopicsHow to practise
IdeasRisks and insurance, principles of insurance, law of contract and agencyShort scenarios: which principle is at work?
Paperwork and claimsInsurance documents, claimsWalk a claim from notice to settlement, then answer
RecallThe market, the regulation topic, reinsurance and co-insurance, ethics and data protectionRepetition, then a check against the current rules

Do the ideas group first, because the rest lean on it. SCI says BCP is the foundation that PGI and ComGI build on, and it asks candidates to take it first. The recall group is where an old set bites hardest. Rules on regulation, data protection and cyber hygiene move faster than principles do, and study texts trail the rules, as our note on where the textbook is out of date explains.

Once each group scores well on its own, switch to full papers. A full paper adds the one thing topic practice can't: switching between ideas every minute.

How to read your mock scores

One score above 70% tells you little, since a good day and a lucky guess look the same. Wait for a run. If your last three timed mocks all land comfortably above 28 out of 40, you're close to ready to book, and the chapter scores tell you what to read once more.

Don't book on untimed practice alone. Scenario questions take longer than definition questions, and you only find out how much longer once a timer is running. A resit is cheap, but one more mock is cheaper, and your agency is waiting for the licence either way.

Frequently asked questions

SCI gives no figure. Three or four full mock exams of 40 questions need 120 to 160 questions before any repeat, so a set of 100 runs out early.

SCI's page for the general insurance papers names the eBook as the study material and lists no question bank, so practice has to come from other material.

Check that it uses 40 questions in 45 minutes, explains each answer, was written for the 8th Edition, Version 1.1, and has enough questions to repeat. Compare it against the Version Control Record in your eBook.

More than 250. It offers timed mock exams at 40 questions in 45 minutes, chapter practice, an explanation on every answer and a retest of your wrong answers, 30 at a time.

If you finish two full Simulation Mode mocks, fail the real exam and claim within 30 days of the result, your access is extended by one month at no charge. Other purchases are final.
