PGI practice papers: how to choose before you pay

Good PGI practice papers match the real paper: 50 multiple-choice questions in 1 hour 15 minutes, 35 right to pass. They explain why an answer is right, and they're written for the edition you'll be examined on. PGI is about policies you may already own, which makes bad practice material easy to trust and hard to spot.

Why PGI practice needs care

Personal motor, home, travel and accident cover feel familiar, so a wrong answer key doesn't set off an alarm. You read the key, think "that sounds right", and learn a condition that isn't in the policy. SCI's PGI contents list covers seven topics, and every one of them turns on wording: what a policy covers, what it leaves out, and what you must do for a claim to be paid.

That's why PGI practice should come with reasons. A letter tells you nothing about the exclusion you missed.

What SCI gives you, and what it doesn't

Once registration and payment go through, SCI emails a link to the PGI eBook. SCI's page for the general insurance papers names that eBook as the study material and lists no question bank. The link is switched off as soon as you've sat the exam, and a resit brings it back only after you've registered and paid again. Read it early, and keep notes on the topics that cost you marks.

Where PGI practice comes from

SourceUseful forRisk
Lists and PDFs passed between colleaguesA feel for question wordingUndated, no reasoning, an answer you can't check
Fixed paid setsA single timed runRepeat sittings test memory of the set, not the topic
Interactive banksDrilling one policy type at a timeOnly as good as the explanations

Use the eBook to learn and a bank to find out what you missed. Anything else is a bonus.

Five checks before you pay

  1. Check the length and clock. Fifty questions in 75 minutes gives you 90 seconds each. A 40-question list is BCP practice.
  2. Ask for the edition. The PGI study text is the 8th Edition, and SCI's Version Control Record in the eBook shows what changed. Compare any set against it, ours included. When an answer and your eBook disagree, the eBook decides.
  3. Test the explanations. Pick three answers and see whether the reasoning names the exclusion, condition or definition that decides the case.
  4. Count the questions. Three full mock exams need 150 before one repeats, and topic drills need more on top.
  5. Ask whether you can retest. A bank that gathers your wrong answers means you stop rereading topics you already know.

Practise one policy at a time

SCI lists these seven topics for PGI: private motor car insurance including private motorcycles, personal property, personal accident, travel, personal liability, health insurance covering critical illness and hospital cash, and foreign domestic worker and golfer's insurance. The paper doesn't announce how the 50 questions divide, so give each topic a short block of practice before you sit full papers.

Two things are worth knowing before you start. Critical illness and hospital cash is a PGI topic, and SCI's HI page says products with only those benefits don't need the HI paper if you've passed BCP and PGI, or M9. If you're heading for HI as well, our HI practice paper options cover the other side of that overlap. And because PGI assumes BCP, a shaky grasp of indemnity or proximate cause will show up as lost marks here. Passing BCP first, as SCI asks, takes care of it.

Turn every wrong answer into one line

Practice only helps if a wrong answer changes what you do next. After each mock, write one line per miss: the policy type, and the single condition, exclusion or definition that decided it. Ten lines from one mock usually show a pattern. Maybe you keep confusing what a personal accident policy pays with what a hospital cash benefit pays. Maybe travel cover is fine but the motor conditions slip.

Then go back to the eBook for that one point, not the whole topic. Twenty minutes on a specific condition does more than a fresh evening on the chapter. Retest those questions two days later, when you've half forgotten the answer, because that's how you find out whether the point stuck.

If your notes and a set disagree, resolve it before you move on. Check the eBook first. If the eBook is unclear, check the policy wording or ask someone at your agency who handles claims, and keep the answer in your notes with the date.

Where CMFAS Prep fits

We have 180+ PGI questions behind the PGI practice page:

  • Timed mock exams in Simulation Mode at 50 questions in 75 minutes.
  • Chapter practice for each of SCI's topics.
  • An explanation on every answer.
  • A retest of wrong answers only, 30 at a time.
  • Chapter scores after each mock, with up to three chapters listed when you're under the pass mark.

A One Paper pass for PGI is S$29.90 for one month of access. If you're sitting BCP first, see how long that takes you before deciding on the PGI month, and follow the PGI study plan for the weeks in between. We don't offer video lessons, tutors or exam booking.

Finish two full Simulation Mode mocks, fail the real exam and claim within 30 days of the result, and your access is extended by one month at no charge. Every other purchase is final.

When to stop practising and book

One good day proves little, so wait for a run of timed scores above 35 out of 50. Then check the chapter scores for any topic that still drags. Persistent low scores in one policy type are a better reason to delay than a nervous feeling. Our PGI sample questions show the kind of scenario you're practising for.
